Sheku Kanneh-Mason Music Video

Music video for Sheku Kanneh-Mason’s beautiful version of the iconic Welsh folk song 'Myfanwy'.

After being approached by the team at Decca Classics to produce Sheku’s new music video, we dived straight into storyboarding and location scouting. Our previous recce’s for other projects meant we already had a beautiful selection of possible locations for the project we were dying to film at. But one location stood out above them all & one remote mountaintop became the sole location for the shoot. Nestled in the Brecon Beacons National Park, Llyn y Fan Fach was to be our backdrop and muse for the production.

These dramatic mountains feel like our backyard, as the majority of our weekends are spent in these spectacular mountains. Our knowledge of the area also meant we could make the best use of pre-production time to plan all the creative elements, as well as the logistics; gaining the location permits, as well as arranging transport & accommodation for the production crew.

We were lucky to have incredibly good weather for the shoot, especially considering we filmed in Wales, in March!

The film opens with Sheku gracefully playing the first notes of this iconic Welsh folk song, with him set starkly among this often unforgiving, but beautiful, open landscape. As the music progresses the film gradually builds and we start to see some of the incredible footage our fully licensed CAA approved drone operator captured of Sheku set among this incredible mountain range. These spectacular panning aerial shots are interlaced with close-ups of Sheku delicately playing his beautiful c.1700 cello. The intensity of the song is complemented by Sheku’s incredible performance, which is also matched by the intensity of the landscape.

With only a short window of time available to shoot Sheku's performance, we brought our good friends at Naive Studio on board to assist with the production. This meant we had 4 separate full 4k cameras set up capturing footage on the day, which meant we had a wealth of footage from the day to choose from when it came to the edit. Alongside the music video, we also provided Decca Classics with a range of social media cut downs as well as providing an array of photographs, which were used across Sheku's Spotify & beyond. The Youtube film alone has currently surpassed 250k views. We loved every minute of this project & couldn't be more proud to show you the final film. Enjoy!
